It’s been awhile since I’ve picked up the old #2 blade.

I’m relearning the work plus having-time-for-cut-paper combo. Got home at 10:00 and decided I’d see what I can finish in 25 minutes. Voilà: a rough cut of random things on my mind lately. Trying to keep in practice, even if I’m forsaking craft a wee bit.

Must learn better lighting for nighttime cut outs…

I was fortunate to work with Studio Bema on the film, Trupiak! Here’s some process for the type and imagery I cut out.

Lots and lots of pleats! Michal of Studio Bema worked his magic and these paperworks ended up like this:

Cut paper drafts for the film title. That’s what these type studies were for.

Another gander at the old type book yielded a 2 minute, Caslon letter N.

Non-fuzzy photos forthcoming…maybe.

A Caslon Oldstyle Italic No. 471 swash. Pretty similar to the NY Mag logo. Like the Go Far post, it’s from American Type Founder’s 1941 The Book of American Types.

The terminals on these guys are tricky. Sometimes these type things are good on the first try (like this one) and sometimes it takes me a bunch (like Go Far).

Taking a break from the usual #2 wielding for some punch and gluing!

This all came about because I got this book from a troll today! I got home late from work and was super grumbly until I found a mystery Amazon package with this book, waiting in the foyer. I have the best buddies.

This little guy is named Lobo. Did you notice he’s wearing sneakers?!
